GCSE results opened live on Sky News
Students in England, Wales, and Northern
Ireland have now started finding out how
they've done in their GCSE's sik st
offered his congratulations. He said,
"To everyone receiving their results
today, a huge congratulations. You
should be proud of all you've achieved.
My government will ensure that your
future is shaped by your talent and
ambition, not your background." Well,
I'm joined now by uh Katie Barfield
who's at Talton Academy in Preston and
and has been there as the students have
been opening their results coming in and
no doubt more people arriving to open
those all important letters. Katie,
>> absolutely. Well, people have been
arriving here at Talton Academy uh from
just about 8 o'clock this morning very
very nervously uh opening their results.
We've been here the entire time and
we've seen a lot of nerves, but also a
lot of celebrations when people have
managed to get uh the results that they
were hoping for. There's just under 130
students coming in uh this morning to
open their results. And just a little
bit earlier, I was here with the first
three students who opened their results.
That is Tom, Aaron, and Millie.
Nerve-wracking times, isn't it? How are
you feeling? You nervous? Not
>> really to be honest.
>> No. Love it.
>> Okay. How did you do, guys? How did you
do?
>> Did you do what what you expected?
>> Yes, it's what I expected.
>> Yeah. Great.
>> Very happy.
>> Great. Great. How did you do, Aaron?
>> Oh, yeah. I got everything I expected.
>> Oh, great. You seem very pleased with
that. Amazing. Millie, what about you?
>> Yeah, I've done really well.
>> You have? Oh, brilliant.
Well, I have got another willing victim
here with me who is going to open his
results live on Sky News right now. Well
done to you. This is James. How are you
feeling, James? Nervous?
>> A little bit nervous, but I think what's
the point of being nervous when you
can't change what's already happened?
>> That is very true. You've got the moment
of the You've got the envelope of truth
in your hands at the moment. So, what
are you expecting? I'm I'm hoping for a
seven or an eight in Englishes and
maths, maybe some sixes, sevens,
science, history, computer science, and
hopefully a six in design tech. Fingers
crossed.
>> So, big expectations, right? Let's do
it. Let's see. Let's see.
Drum roll, please.
Your hand Your hands are shaking, James.
>> No, I'm right. I'm all right. I've done
the exact thing you told me not to.
>> No, no, no. It's fine. Don't worry.
>> Have you got it? Have you got it? Oh
Jesus.
>> There's a lot of papers in here we've
got to get through. Especially when you
got shaky hands on results day. Let's
see it. Let's see it. James, how did you
>> Right. I've got a seven in computer
science, a nine in math.
>> Well done.
>> A five in design and technology, an
eight in English literature.
>> Nice.
>> A seven in biology, a seven in English
language, a seven in chemistry. Not
expecting.
>> Nice. So all really good grades.
>> Oh god. A six in physics, and an eight
in history.
>> So that's better than you expected in a
lot of grades. Oh my god. You would. So
a nine is obviously the highest grade
you can get. You weren't expecting that
in math?
>> Not at all.
>> So how are you feeling right now?
>> Happy. Very happy. Very satisfied. Yeah.
>> Amazing. Amazing. And what are your
plans after this? What are you going to
go and do now you've got these
incredible results?
>> I'm going to do four A levels at college
which will be feather maths, maths,
economics, and
>> hopefully strengthened by the nine in
math.
>> I was going to say taking your excellent
math results to do
>> not expecting that honestly.
>> I know the relief on your face is quite
quite amazing.
So, yeah, that's brilliant.
>> How are you going to celebrate this
morning?
>> Uh, I'm gonna go to Nando.
Yeah, I'm I'm going to get my free
chicken and
>> the classic.
>> I know. Exactly. Free stuff.
>> Well, yeah. Some great celebration
plans. Love it. Yeah. Calm down. Have a
chill this morning. Yes. Well done,
James. So, well done. Yeah, James.
Amazing results here. Congratulations to
you and congratulations to all of the
students here at Talson Academy and of
course across the country picking up
their GCSE results this morning. What?
Congratulations. And Katie, I dating
myself here. So So GCSE is now I
probably should have known this. You get
a number rating out of nine rather than
a letter.
>> You do. So it's numbers one to nine now.
So James, if we have a look at your
results. So nine is absolutely the
highest you can get. So that's the
equivalent of like a really high A star,
isn't it?
>> I believe they say an A star.
>> Yes. And talk me through the rest of
your results. So what would these have
been equivalent to in the old system?
Because they have changed it. I think it
was 2020 that all the results started to
>> I got a five in design tech which would
have been a I believe a B.
>> Yes.
>> Between a C and a B.
>> Yeah.
>> Then I got a six in physics six which
would be a B. Definitely a B. Either a B
or a B+. And then a seven B or A
>> which I got in most of my things to be
honest.
>> Yes. So they basically brought these
results in these number systems to
differentiate between an A star and a
very very high A star which is what you
achieved in math.
>> Exactly. Yeah. It's it's a lot more
accurate with the numbers.
>> Yes. Yes. Brilliant. So, thank you. Oh,
we're having an alarm going off now at
the moment academy. But yeah, we will
hand back to you now. But yeah,
congratulations, James, and
congratulations to everyone this
morning.
>> Yeah, can't beat nine out of nine,
Katie. Great stuff. I hope he enjoys his
cheeky Nando. Great choice of way to
celebrate there. Right, still to come
here on the Breakfast Show, we'll
discuss a new proposal for a ceasefire
in Gaza.
